Ellen Christina Sorensen, my Great Aunt, married Frank Dagel Jr. on 5 June 1924. They lived the summation of their life in Sanborn Iowa. Frank Dagel died from complications arising from uncontrolled diabetes in 1973 (I think I remember it as being summer of that year) and Ellen Dagel died of hypothermia and shock after a fall on 22 august of 1993. I remember Ellen Christina Sorensen Dagel as a hard working person with
little time for extravagance. She didn't have indoor plumbing until 1986
and I remember her chopping her own wood for the kitchen cookstove the
winter of 1973 after Frank died. Her one real passion in life was her
elephants. By my estimate she had over 5000 elephants of every description
that she had collected or received over her lifetime and she could tell you
where every one came from. She kept chickens, at least one cat, and grew
geraniums in peach tins on the windowsills. She always gave us a
subscription to Reader's Digest for Christmas. For extra money she cleaned
house for an acquaintance until 1981 when she realised she was 80 years old
and employed by a 62 year old. She quite firmly decided at that a 62 year
old woman should be young enough to clean her own house and she didn't need
